Welcome to the ‘Age of Anxiety’

The pressures of modern life are causing a spike in mental health issues. Far too many people are feeling like they are merely surviving rather than thriving. Low level exhaustion is the norm, with anxiety, panic attacks, stress, and depression on the rise, it’s time for a new approach.

Positive Psychology is a brand new area of science. As well as helping those who are languishing, Positive Psychology also looks at those who are flourishing – what can we learn from people who are functioning at their best and how can we apply those lessons to the wider population.

If we want staff who are confident, resilient, creative, motivated, empathetic, agile, and who have real purpose in their lives, they need to be taught how. In short, staff need a programme that equips them for the fast- paced world of today and tomorrow.

Our WELLBEING AWARD is preventative. By equipping people with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to take charge of their own mental health, they can build a buffer against uncertainty and change.

How is the WELLBEING AWARD structured?

The Art of Brilliance WELLBEING AWARD is a 9-hour programme comprising 6 modules, each mapped against the building blocks that enable human flourishing: Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishment and Health.

Although the PERMAH model has a strong academic underpinning – its DNA is taken from the latest thinking in areas of psychology, resilience, wellbeing and human flourishing - the WELLBEING AWARD is delivered with a deliberately light touch.

The aim is to deliver a fun and interactive programme that includes a host of practical and do-able wellbeing strategies that are applicable at work and home.

Programme delivery is totally flexible. Our ‘wellbeing 6-pack’ can be a 1.5 day workshop, or 3 x half days, or 6 virtual sessions, or a blend thereof.

What does the WELLBEING AWARD look like?

The modules comprise the best of ‘Art of Brilliance’ content, shaped around the internationally recognised PERMAH model.

Module 1. Positive Emotion (aka, ‘The Art of Being Brilliant’)

An introduction to Positive Psychology that includes some simple science but no big words. Thought-provoking and engaging, this module begins the transition to ‘best possible self’ at work and home. We introduce some early lessons on positive emotion, resilience, and gratitude.

Module 2. Engagement (aka, ‘You 2.0’)

The most optimistic surveys suggest that only 18% of employees are actively engaged. The rest are a mix of ‘disinterested’ and ‘actively disengaged’. Employee engagement is the key to organisational success, and engagement starts with yourself. This module examines how to raise your levels of enthusiasm and passion for life, and how to raise your personal bar to ‘best possible self’ more often. It includes elements of strengths and flow.

Module 3. Relationships (aka, ‘Stronger Together’)

We live in a virtual world, yet research shows that strong social bonds – real life relationships - are the biggest factor in mental health. This session focuses on how to create positive human connections. It’s less about followers and more about friendships. ‘Stronger Together’ includes information on positive communication as well as a host of top tips to maintain good quality relationships, starting with the most important connection of them all – you with yourself.

Module 4. Meaning (aka, ‘The Why-Factor’)

This module goes back to basics, daring to ask a fundamental question... why do you do what you do? Doing it for the money is fine. That will get compliance. If you want to thrive, you need to tap into inspiration. This module seeks to connect (or re-connect) people with their purpose and allow them to make authentic and valued contributions.

Module 5. Accomplishment (aka, ‘How to Rise and Shine’)

Too many people are languishing. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut of sameness. This module acknowledges the brevity of life and suggests that if you’re going to rise, you may as well shine. Accomplishment raises the aspirational bar. Individuals will find willpower and ‘way-power’ by learning how to set inspiring goals. It takes the core messages of engagement, flourishing, resilience and personal responsibility, and looks at embedding them in everyday actions.

Module 6. Health (aka, ‘Self-Care)

In a world dominated by screen time, this module challenges employees to look around at what everyone else is doing, and NOT do that! Physical and mental health are connected so this module is a reminder to get the basics right. Eat, move and sleep are ‘keystone habits’ that provide a launch pad for physical and mental health. This module also introduces some key concepts of mindfulness and ‘being in the moment’.

World Leading

The Art of Brilliance team has been delivering wellbeing programmes before ‘wellbeing’ was on anyone’s agenda. Formed in 2004, our keynotes, workshops and webinars have been delivered to rave reviews all over the world.

The Art of Brilliance WELLBEING AWARD is the first of its kind. It is rooted in the modern world and is designed to inspire and educate, as well as equip staff with a set of life-skills that help them transition from languishing to flourishing.

WELLBEING AWARD provides total flexibility of delivery. Assessment is via a short reflective review and each successful participant receives a Certificate in Wellbeing.

Further to this, each participant is given access to our library of wellbeing videos and podcasts so they can top up their learning on demand.

There is no silver bullet for wellbeing but this programme, alongside a supportive leadership culture, has the potential to transform lives. Best of all, the WELLBEING AWARD aims to give employers what they need – teams of flourishing employees who are able to cope with the full-on nature of modern life.

Prevention is better than cure

The current system of ‘waiting for staff to show signs of mental ill-health and then fixing them’ is, at best, an inordinately expensive and ineffective way of addressing the problem. But we continue because of the moral argument; if intervention can save just one person, then it is deemed worthwhile.

That’s true. Helping those in need is a moral responsibility.

In addition, our morality needs channelling in another direction. The vast majority of people don’t need ‘saving’ or ‘fixing’, they need empowering and energising. Empowering your staff to take charge of their own mental health will energise them to live flourishing lives, both inside and outside of work.

Equipping them with the knowledge and skills to flourish is absolutely the right thing to do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who’s the WELLBEING AWARD for?

Everyone can benefit from a reminder of the basics of human flourishing. Thus, the WELLBEING AWARD is appropriate for every member of staff. Organisations may also consider it as the ‘next level’ for those who’ve already attended a Mental Health First Aid course (or similar).

How much does the WELLBEING AWARD cost?

The programme costs £250 per person (with a minimum of 12 participants). The fee includes programme design, delivery, assessment, and certification, as well as access to our bank of supporting resources.

Is the WELLBEING AWARD available as an in-company programme?

Yes, the WELLBEING AWARD is available as a 9-hour in-company programme. It can be delivered as a 1.5 day workshop, 3 x half days, 6 webinars, or a combination thereof.

Is the WELLBEING AWARD available as an open programme?

Yes, the WELLBEING AWARD runs as an open programme, delivered online, with 3 start dates per year. Details coming soon.

How is the programme assessed?

The WELLBEING AWARD is assessed via a short self-reflective piece of work. Essentially, each candidate is asked to reflect on what wellbeing strategies they’ve applied as a result of the programme. Wellbeing is a subjective science so different strategies will work in different ways for different people. The reflective review is designed to be non-onerous and, as such, can be a short written piece, audio file or video.

Is the programme suitable for those who are struggling with their mental health?

Our view is that the WELLBEING AWARD is suitable for everyone. If staff are struggling with their mental health, they should already have support in place. This programme does not replace that support, it runs alongside it. This 9-hour programme will act as a reminder of some the basics of self-care and self-compassion.
