How to have an epic 2022

Despite the empty seats, the Tokyo Olympics was still compelling viewing. A year late, it was an exotic gathering where the best in the world took on the best in the world. It was great entertainment because they’re all so fast or bouncy or throwy or bendy or stretchy or balancey or swimmey or rowey or jumpy or strong.

Ditto the Winter Olympics. Shooting headfirst down an icy hill on a baking tray – it’s bonkers and brilliant at the same time.
The skill and talent on show is amazing. Which got me thinking, what if there was an Olympics for everyday things that require no skill or talent.

Absolutely none.

I’m calling it the ‘Everyday Olympics’. The clue’s in the name. Rather than every four years, it happens every single day in an everyday town for everyday people like you and I.

It’s a decathlon. Here are my ten everyday events that require zero skill or talent:

  1. Working hard
  2. Smiling
  3. Having good manners
  4. Expressing gratitude
  5. Doing extra
  6. Being prepared
  7. Having a positive attitude
  8. Being super kind
  9. Showing up on time
  10. Looking after your physical health

So here’s the question that will launch you into having an epic 2022 and beyond… if you were competing in these ten everyday events, would you make the podium? And with your hand on your heart, is there anything actually stopping you from going for gold?

The truth is that 2021 has been another weird year. It’s easy to lose touch with your ‘best self’. 2022 is an opportunity to rise stronger. I’m a big believer in personal development but maybe, right now, it’s time to take stock and get the basics right.

My top tip to guarantee an EPIC 2022 is to go for gold in the Everyday Olympics. Remember, no skill or talent required. That means there really are no excuses! Do all 10 a little bit better than you have to and you’ll get noticed for all the right reasons.
