Jonathan Peach: How a book changed the course of his life

Many of us have adverse life experiences that lead us to re-evaluate where we are in life and what we really want to do. This was the situation with Jonathan Peach (affectionally known as JP). Jonathan gives us an insight into how and why he became an Art of Brilliance Trainer.

Jonathan tells us:

“I had been working at a leadership level for a number of years. Then about ten years ago I had a considerably difficult time at work. It became so hard that I left my job in retail. I had really lost direction and wasn’t sure at all where I was going. I then had six months off with depression and anxiety. It was a horrible place to be. During this time I went through what I now lovingly call my shorts and flipflops phase and whilst it was an incredibly difficult time, it was the start of me changing my mindset to become determined to do something about where I wanted to be.”

Jonathan continues:

“Around this time a great friend of mine and adviser to me, Martin, bought me the book The Art of Being Brilliant. Almost instantly I could see the power of positive psychology. I devoured the book and reread it many times, absorbing the insightful gems.”

Jonathan went back to work and at the same time started to become immersed in study.
He completed a Neuro Linguistic Programming course and also completed coaching training. He then also set up his training and coaching company.

Jonathan explains the next steps.

“I went back to work at a different company. I had been thinking about contacting Andy Cope for a considerable time. Eventually, I wrote to him, suggesting we could have a coffee or beer. I wanted to thank him for helping me clarify things through the pages of his book.”

Jonathan was then invited to see Andy at work. He went to see him deliver a great session at a school. And after having a chat in the car park, a plan was hatched for JP to see other trainers at work. He went to dozens of sessions to ensure that he could take in as much information that he could. So through his study, observation and practice, JP became an Art of Brilliance Trainer.

JP explains the first time he delivered an Art of Brilliance training session:

“I can still remember the very first time I delivered a workshop. I think it is safe to say I was nervous – the weekend before I actually made myself ill with how nervous I felt.

I now know that was because I cared, I still care desperately and get nervous before every event, I care about people getting something from it and event organisers getting what they want from it – I have a very simple philosophy in life – that we are all incredible people, capable of incredible things but there is one thing that consistently gets in our way and that’s us!”

Jonathan has had many great training and coaching experiences including developing referees at the Union of the European Football Association (UEFA), working with Derby County Football Club, training a broad range of people across the NHS and working with executives from leading UK businesses.

And finally, JP tells us why he does what he does.

“It is an incredible privilege to be able to positively influence people’s lives.
And I do it because I really want to inspire and energise people to be the very best version of themselves.”

JP, you do exactly that! Thank you.
