Change the story

‘People can’t change’ is an adage we often hear. It has always been this way and will continue to be this way. Throughout history, people have been selfish, dishonest, ignorant and rude.

However, we think that’s only half the story.

We need to change the narrative.

Yes, people might not be able to change but YOU can. You are not people. You are YOU.

You might not be able to change what your colleague, boss or neighbour is like but you can change how you respond to them. Our identities are not fixed, we absolutely can change our thoughts and our behaviours.

We become the story we tell ourselves, it could be despairing or inspiring. It’s up to us.

Who we think we are becomes our identity.

As humans, we can all feel trapped in our own skin. We can be stuck in the loop of bad habits but you are not everyone else. You are you.

You might not have the power to change the world, but you have the power to change your own world. You are the only person you have complete control over.

But it requires effort. Serious effort.

The biggest difference between 2%ers and the rest of the population isn’t a magical potion nor does it have anything to do with money, rainbows or unicorns. In fact the biggest difference is that 2%ers choose to be positive.

They have learnt a set of behaviours that allow them to stand out from the crowd.

They have changed their identity.

They have become the best version of themselves.

If you want lasting positive change then it requires work. From you.

As we start to adopt better thoughts, attitudes and behaviours and begin to change ourselves we actually can start to help people become a better version of themselves too.

We are changing the story.

Andre Agassi has spoken about how his coach once told him there are two types of people in this world. Thermometers and thermostats. Thermometers can read a room but thermostats can change it.

Being the best version of yourself will mean you are guaranteed to be a thermostat.

One person can change a room.

Let that person be you.

And once you change that room, who knows what could happen?
