The Power of YOU

They’re everywhere! The chances are you’ve never seen the Everyday Superheroes because they’re cunningly disguised as ordinary people.

Small daily actions – eye contact, a smile, some chatter, a compliment, letting someone out in the traffic, kindness… these things add up.

Your mum is an everyday super. She probably can’t lift cars, but she can lift you!

Dads, they might not be able to stop time, but they can create time. The most precious time of all. The one-to-one, eye contact, genuinely being in the moment with their family time.

Grandparents, their hearing aids might not be able to detect someone yelling from down a mineshaft 30 miles away, but they can hear you, right now, in this moment. They can be genuinely interested in what you’re saying, which is a superpower, right there.

Next-door neighbours might not have x-ray vision, but they can see when you need a hand. Their everyday superpowers are revealed by lending you their ladder.

Teachers, you don’t actually have to possess the power to know all things. Just one thing. That the kid (and parent!) who stresses you the most is the one who needs you the most. The power of being there for them is quite a thing.

If you sit back and watch the superhero leaders, you’ll see them wielding the power of letting the team crack on without being micromanaged, aka, the gift of trust.

And have you ever wondered why your besties are your besties? They have the power of empathy. They tune in. They understand. It’s a wavelength thing. They are your cheerleaders (no pom-poms required).

All these everyday supers have one thing in common: they have the power of presence.

Yes, agreed, it sometimes gets obscured by busyness or because we’re staring at screens, swiping, scrolling and accidentally being drawn into the vortex of meaninglessness.

On balance, this vortex is the dark side. Fight the doomscrolling. Busyness and screen time form a black hole that sucks too many people in.

The superpower of presence is your gift to those around you. Let the Force be with you.

If you want to hone your superpowers, or create a team of everyday superheroes, it just so happens that we run the world’s best training.
